WASHINGTON D.C. — A 21-year-old man was fatally shot by U.S. Secret Service agents on Saturday evening following an armed confrontation at a security checkpoint near the White House.

The incident, which occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. local time near the intersection of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, prompted an immediate lockdown of the White House complex.

Details of the Incident According to the U.S. Secret Service, the suspect approached a checkpoint, brandished a weapon from his bag, and opened fire on agents. Secret Service personnel immediately returned fire, striking the individual.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A bystander was also struck by gunfire during the exchange; their condition remains under investigation. No Secret Service agents or White House staff sustained injuries.
